The 1619 Project, inaugurated with a special issue of The New York Times Magazine, challenges us to reframe U.S. history by marking the year when the first enslaved Africans arrived on Virginia soil as our nation's foundational date.

JOIN THE 1619 PROJECT COMMUNITY

In February 2021 we launched a major expansion in this work, The 1619 Project Education Network. Forty-two teams of educators from across the country will collaborate together with award-winning journalists, historians, and our Pulitzer Center education team to create curricular resources that allow students to engage authentically and critically with the world.
