The 1619 Project, inaugurated with a special issue of The New York Times Magazine, challenges us to reframe U.S. history by marking the year when the first enslaved Africans arrived on Virginia soil as our nation's foundational date. In February 2021 we launched a major expansion in this work, The 1619 Project Education Network. We are grateful to the foundations and individuals who have joined this effort, especially our lead supporter, Facebook. Other donors include Humanity United, the Trellis Fund, the Art for Justice Fund, Open Society Foundations, The Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
